The principles of authority and liking. As a student calling alumni for my university's fundraising campaigns, being knowledgeable about the university history and genuinely making a connection with alumni helped me secure pledges for various departments and scholarships. Not to mention, it helped me get a promotion in which I trained newly hired callers for the fundraising telethon.

Consensus and Consistency. Really cool to see how conversions go up when you take people through a different pre-frame and add some form of social proof! It has helped me increase my conversions for my digital marketing clients in my 1-man agency for sure.

People are more persuasive if you present it with ethical arguments 1. Reciprocity Obligation to give when you recieve. Gift personalised (for you extra) and unexpected 2. Scarcity, people want more of where is less from. Tell benefits + what's unique, what they stand to lose 3. Authorithy, people follow credible, knowledgeable experts (display uniform, diploma), let the receptionist tell the customer first about the credentials of the "salesman" 4. Consistency, asking/looking for small volumtary, active, public commitments that can be made, before asking a bigger commitment. Asking the patient to write down the apointment on the card in stead of the doctor (helps 18%). 5. Liking of the asking person, we like people who are simular to us, give us genian conpliments, are cooperative to mutal goals 6. Concesus, point to what others are already doing

Very Fascinating! Thank you so much for sharing this informative and beneficial video that can be used in pretty much any business setting whether it be a restaurant, hotel, gas station, or even an online store. I however am now going to be consciously noticing when businesses are trying to persuade me, which may have the opposite effect of me paying more, but nonetheless it was still a great video! ^_^

I don't find scarcity to be ethical, it's actually unethical. Pyramid schemes use this business model and so do people trying to sell you random products, it could be a shirt online at 60% off for a limited time or a car cleaner which cleans any part of your car for $200 but for today only it's $60. That kind of business relies on people to impulse buy and isn't ethical in the slightest. I have had several friends come to me with "business opportunities" aka pyramid schemes trying to tell me they're giving me this opportunity because I'm a good friend and they wanted to give me this opportunity. They all the say the same thing, how great it is but being very vague to any questions concerning their business. The scarcity is that you they're giving you the opportunity and you won't have it later on. I always try to let them down gently by saying I can't afford it when I easily can and their response is always the same, you need to spend money to make money.

What about pressure/stress as an influencing factor? Seeing it at the work place often enough. Is it not listed because it’s not a factor or that it has not been scientifically proven yet?

This is some dangerous knowledge. I've tried these on multiple people, and it has definitely increased my chances of getting them to do what I want. I've even gotten my enemy's best friend on my side now, using the three factors of liking. For those of you who utilizes these methods, please be careful and do not use these for manipulative and malicious intentions.

This video is why so many people are stupid. Idiots simply accepting an idea because the persuader claims "scientific research shows....." How many people were tested? How many times was the test given? Were the circumstances different for different tests? People should look deeper into what others claim as scientifically proven. Dumb video

When attempting to convince someone of a disputed fact, "alternative facts" if you will. Experience from Politicians, CEOs and studies by leading scientists have shown verbal communication the least effective way to do so. Reading written facts, in a study a news article, etc. is more effective then verbal. However the most effective method is... an image. A line graph or pie chart to be exact has the highest memory retention rate and credibility. While the many made jokes, it seems Ross Perot knew exactly what he was doing to build credibility, authority and influence people.

The ethics of persuasion ought to be measured by the ends sought by persuading others. If one is self-aware and aware then and only then does one have the ability to judge properly over the use of persuasion. The stupid will easily persuade themselves that persuading others is acceptable when in fact it is evil to do so. But educating the masses about these skills are important. Knowledge can be an equalizing force. Knowledge however also corrupts those with low ethics.
Joe Piervincenti (8 months ago)
I have always worked with number one. To get what we want, first give the other what they want. That is usually effective enough but it also depnds on what the situation is. For example the towel example. That's more influence than persuasion. In real estate sales, knowing the sellers motivation to sell is crucial and can make a huge difference. It's not alwats to get a bundle of cash. I did not hear anuthing about our counterparts interest in possibly doing the transaction. For example. My Smith, what is your reason for considering this opportunity today? ANyway, there are many variations possible.
