Mine looks nothing like yours, lol. I've been trying for a while and my fingers don't want to corporate.
naztazia (3 years ago)
+Devynmarie Albright Hi! Crochet definitely takes a lot of practice. If you are having some difficulties with the hook, maybe consider taking a look at my finger crochet video instead. This one shows you how to crochet with just your fingers, which is much easier: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvfeHjFFmZk&list=PL967A411A9D90AA96&index=62

For the triple crochet, which chain from hook do you go into? Everything else was well explained. Thanks!
Chrochet Fan (2 years ago)
Love these tutorials for review! :-D
naztazia (3 years ago)
+barbie58781 Hi! Mostly that would depend upon the written crochet pattern that you are following... however if you are just looking to practice, you can skip 3 chains and insert your hook into the 4th one. Or even try skipping 4 chains and inserting your hook into the 5th one.

I'm learning to crochet and I'm finding your videos very helpful and well done. Just a doubt..when using the double crochet, do we have to skip the first three chains just at the beginning of the first row right?
Louchan2 (4 years ago)
These videos are the best for learning crocheting, they're so incredibly helpful! I have a question though, I've just started our learning crocheting, and I'm learning both the english terms as well as the swedish ones. (Since I am from Sweden myself) But there seems to be a difference in how the double crochet is done. None of the swedish tutorials or books I've read have said that I should skip the first three chains when starting on a double crochet. Why exactly is this done?
Begin Anew (4 years ago)
This was pretty educational.  But, maybe I missed something about why you would use a double or triple crochet.  Would it be due to the design you're following or are those certain types of crochets used for certain things you may crochet?
Julia Charles (4 years ago)
Excellent! Thank you - I've had so much frustration over figuring out which piece of yarn to crochet in.

Lynn Gee (4 years ago)
Hi iam just learning but I seem to be doing very tight
naztazia (4 years ago)
@Lynn Gee That is normal for your "tension" to be either too tight or too loose or inconsistent when you are first beginning. With practice, you will figure out how to make your stitches a bit looser. One trick that might help is using a hook that is a size or two larger than what you are using now.
Chrissy Ann (4 years ago)
You are an excellent and patient instructor. Thank You so much for putting your videos out for beginners.   I am picking up way faster than the crochet class I had just started. The instructor went to fast and I was struggling with the slipknot, then she  went quickly with single chain to switching over the other side. She only ask me how I am doing. You are very detailed and you go slow pace which helps... ty

Maryam Sam (4 years ago)
i'm sorry to ask but.. if the free pattern said that we must first do 6 single crochet. what does it mean? i mean, before making the single crochet, do we need to do the chain beforehand? because i don't see they wrote chain in the pattern.. so, how to do single crochet if there is no chain? am sorry for my bad english.:(

melissa crenshaw (5 years ago)
My daughter and I are learning to crochet from women at church and we were taught the double crochet first thing, after the chain of course. After seeing the single crochet, I'm wondering why we can do that instead because it looks so much easier. We're making lap quilts for our local Hospice House. Is it maybe because the double crochet is better for quilts?
melissa crenshaw (5 years ago)
Absolutely! Thank you so much. Great video!
naztazia (5 years ago)
Hi! Single crochet takes a bit longer to do than double crochet in a blanket. In about the same time you make 1 single crochet, you could do 1 double crochet and the stitch will be twice as tall, allowing you to finish the blanket much quicker. Other than that, double crochet forms a lighter, drape to the blanket, as opposed to all single crochet, which would make a thicker, stiffer blanket than if it was all double crochet. Hope this helps!
Jorge Ruiz (5 years ago)
The problem I'm having is after I make my chain and try to SC the chain and holes are very tight making it difficult for the hook to go through and back :/
naztazia (5 years ago)
It's normal for stuff to be too tight or too loose when you first start out. Consistency among stitches only comes with practice (lots of it). You can try using a larger sized crochet hook just for the chain, which will force you to make your chain a bit looser, then switch back to the normal hook for the single crochet stitches. Or you will have to make your starting chain much looser - sometimes so loose that it looks too loose - but it will end up being perfect for your next row.
Fran Pagan (5 years ago)
Donna's video's are the most informative and most concise, crochet videos I have found.  I was able to crochet all the stitches in parts 1 & 2 after about 10 minutes.  Best instructional crochet video out there!

Thank you so very much for your kindness! :)

Here's a tip: Don't forget to yarn over!
naztazia (5 years ago)
Hahaha - yeah, I sure do emphasize it and say it a lot in this video :)
Emma Johnson (5 years ago)
Could I ask a quick question please: In the first part of this video you chain a stitch at the end of the row before turning your work. When doing a double stitch would you chain 2? Sorry ultimate beginner, but your video is great and i'm getting there. Thank you :)
