Deviate Labs, a Growth Hacking agency from Los Angeles California, was brought on to help promote a nationally syndicated television show called Small Town Big Deal. The purpose was to create buzz for the show and engage with their audience in anticipation of the new season. After some deliberation the team at Deviate Labs decided it would be fun for the show’s audience to vote on which neighborhood had the best “main street” shopping experience in America. This contest was run in partnership with ShopOnMain.com and the winning neighborhood would receive the following: * A spotlight on Small Town Big Deal. * The title of #1 Main Street in America * A spotlighted section on ShopOnMain.com to sell products through Deviate Labs needed a tool that was fast and easy to use, ultimately choosing the vote contest tool by Wishpond. Once they set up the landing page it was off to the races. Thousands entered the contest, and even more voted to represent their neighborhoods — the turnout was even better than they expected. In total the best main street in America contest received: * 21, 726 signups (emails captured) * 57,380 contest views (impressions) * A 37.9% conversion rate ShopOnMain.com saw a staggering increase in their web traffic and engagement on their social channels during the contest. Their Wishpond landing page was able to operate on the side and collect leads for their future promotions all while they underwent a massive website redesign. Small Town Big Deal and ShopOnMain.com wanted a customized landing page that was flexible enough to meet their brand standards and still appeal to a wider audience. They needed a lead generation solution that was easy to build, monitor, and automate. This means exporting leads, automated emails to entrants, and a simple winner selection. Overall the contest was a huge success and they were able to generate 21,726 emails to use in the future when ShopOnMain.com relaunched their website. This resulted in a larger list of leads and a flood of sales when the store was reopened for business. Visitors to these pages generally arrive after clicking on a Google or Facebook Ad or a link on a Google search results page. And one of the most important aspects of a landing page is that it has no top-bar navigation links, meant to limit the options available to your visitors helping to guide them toward your intended call-to-action. Contests are a great way to get new Facebook likes, Twitter followers, traffic to your website and leads by enticing them with a prize. There are many different types of contests from the most basic "random draw" Facebook Sweepstakes to highly involved video contest s with a full panel of judges to decide a winner. All of which can easily be setup with contest apps like Wishpond's. My biggest piece of contest advice? Don't give away an Ipad. You will get a ton of entries, but those people will only be interested in ipads, not your products. This will make it almost impossible to convert these users into actual sales for your business. Lead Generation Pages: These are used to collect information such as a name and an email address through a sign up form. This allows you to market to and connect with these potential customers (or leads) at a subsequent time. As such a lead-generation page will contain a form along with a description of what you'll get in return for submitting information or "opting in". An effective lead-generation page offers people something in exchange for completing the signup form. an ebook, a free webinar, a coupon, a giveaway...This is what's known as the "bribe".

Kiva, an innovative non-profit organization, wanted to increase the number of donations of first time visitors to their landing page. Hypothesis: Kiva believed that if they provided more information for visitors on their landing page that they’d increase the number of donors. Result: Adding an information box to the bottom of the page resulted in an 11.5% increase in donations. You always need to make sure you answer any objections a visitor to your landing page will have. The additional information at the bottom helped clarify objections and increase credibility as an organization. Sony wasn’t achieving the conversion rates they wanted from their banner ads. Originally, the ad featured two calls-to-action, “Make it personal” and “Customize your VAIO.” Hypothesis: Sony wanted to test if either the personalized or promotional ad would convert better. Result: The personalized call-to-action increased click through rate by 6% and shopping cart adds by 21.3% over the original. Version A worked so well because it personalized their message.
