After the recent passing of travel legend Anthony Bourdain, I take a look back at a trip from 5 years ago that he largely inspired me to embark on. All we can do now that he is gone is to keep traveling and telling our own stories. R.I.P. My entry for the 2013 University of Georgia Study Abroad Video Contest. It won first prize!! =D This is a contest that is held annually at my university to get people to submit their photos and videos from abroad. It's something I've been looking forward to entering for a long time, and I am happy to finally share some of my own video clips!

I visited a shrine in Umeda, Osaka to see my friend dress up as a demon during a festival to celebrate Setsubun. I follow him around for a bit and have a chat with him about his experience. **NOTE** I made a mistake in the spelling of the shrine. It is Ohatsutenjin, with an N at the end. Sorry for the mistake, but I didn't want to re-upload.

Some friends and I visited the Kobe Luminaire, an annual light display in Kobe that is free to visit and attracts thousands of people every year. I didn't narrate or edit too much this time because I figured I'd just leave the footage as is and show what the event is like in the raw... "in the raw" ... do people say that?

Some footage I recorded of me participating in Ohatsu Tenjin's (the shrine where I filmed my Setsubun video) summer festival on . Some of you may recognize Seiji as well. This is a festival that runs directly through the very center of Umeda, Osaka. I had this footage for two years and couldn't think of how best to edit it, when suddenly I realized I was trying too hard. I think leaving the footage mostly unedited is the best way to experience what I got to be a part of that day. It was by far one of my favorite experiences in Japan, and I will be joining again for the second time this year!

Re-upload of part one of my trip to Kyushu. I explore canal city, eat delicious ramen, and make some friends! Originally uploaded on Jan. 12, 2013, this video had to be re-uploaded because of a music copyright issue which is (hopefully) resolved and not going to be a problem again. Credit to Spiriax for the track "Japanology" added in at the end of this video.

I took a trip to see the cherry blossoms (sakura) in full bloom at beautiful Osaka Castle Park. This video is largely me showing off some of the beautiful shots I was able to get. I also do a taste comparison between sakura-flavored sweets and the real deal. Music is a famous Japanese song called sakura sakura, played on the koto.

A friend and I went on a trip to one of the world's most snowy regions, Tateyama, located near Toyama, Japan. At Tateyama, even in late April, the walls of snow stand 18 meters high. We had some fun in the snow and ate some interesting food along the way! Also, I tend to be a bit lazy with translations/subtitles, so if something sounds unnatural, forgive me!

The Kansai region in Japan has 3 major cities in close proximity and reminds me of the tri-state area back home. Just like Tony drove through the Lincoln Tunnel to get to Jersey, I take the express train from Osaka to Kobe... the other city in Kansai. I shot this video in 2014 when I was living in Japan.
